Sian Radford, Gwen Millward
A joyful rhyming picture book exploring neurodiversity that’s perfect for EVERY young reader.
There’s a drummer in my head. They are tiny, but they’re there. And they tap-a-tap-tap and pa-rum-pa-pum-pum All day without a care… Sounds distracting? It can be! When this little girl is overwhelmed, her little drummer beats fast and loud. She taps out a rhythm when she’s trying to concentrate… And the little drummer knows just how to make her smile… Debut children’s author Sian Radford shares her experience of neurodivergence in this playful, imaginative picture book that celebrates imagination, creativity and connection. 🥁Perfect for ALL readers 🥁Bouncy rhyming text 🥁Positive and reassuring
For this little girl, a steady beat is a happy one. Having space to breathe helps her smile. She says it fills her heart and soul with glee. Whereas a combination of fast rhythm and loud music feels overwhelming. She needs to block this out, to be alone, because otherwise everything will remain confusing. But this isn’t her showing rudeness to anybody.

I read this book as part of the reading challenge boxes. It is a little hard for me as I’m only young, so I read it with some help from my mum and managed about three wuarters of the words. The rhymes were really good and I enjoyed xx
